Riley Klein (born in the Metro-Detroit area, 2004) is a Detroit-based artist, designer, and curator currently pursuing her BFA in Fiber & Textiles at the College for Creative Studies as a Junior. Her practice moves fluidly between art and design, blending traditional textile methods with contemporary digital tools.
Through her artistic practice, Riley meditates with materials to regain control of the present moment. Inspired by her lifelong connection to textiles and growing up with social media, she creates primarily through tapestry weaving, collage, and digital sublimation printing. Drawing from personal memories, habits, and shared experiences, meditating on these moments and behaviors helps redirect her attention toward an idealized reality. Group exhibitions include Environments and Microclimates, Fiber Club, 2024, Girlhood, U245 Gallery, 2024, and Where Do We Go From Here, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, 2022. Klein has worked for galleries and curated exhibitions in Detroit, including Matéria Gallery, Embrace Creatives, Fiber Club, and the College for Creative Studies. Riley's handwoven tapestries and textile collages serve as a controlled escapism to counter comparison, overthinking, and hyperplanning.
As a designer, Riley has worked for Lacks Enterprises to produce innovative solutions for their Luminelle trims. Briefed to push the boundaries of Lacks' current portfolio, Riley introduced and designed for a new consumer identity, exploring how their popular LED lighting and chrome trims could appeal to younger markets. Riley is supplementing her Fiber & Textile Design studies with Color & Material (CMF) Design courses to hone her skills in consumer-centered design. In the summer of 2025, Riley will be interning at Lear and Eagle Ottawa as an Automotive Leather Design Intern.
